Marriage counselling for couples who are still deciding.
Whether you are rebuilding after betrayal, arguing about the same thing for the fifth year, or quietly working out how to leave — this is the room for that conversation.
Who comes for this
Most couples arrive late. They have tried talking, tried church, tried a break, tried pretending. By the time they book, one partner is usually further out of the door than the other, and both are exhausted.
That is a normal starting point, not a disqualifying one. Christie has spent fifteen years working with couples at exactly that stage, and wrote A Leap Over Divorce out of it.
- Communication that has collapsed into either silence or the same repeating fight
- Trust after infidelity, financial betrayal, or a long-kept secret
- In-law and extended family pressure that neither of you is defending against
- Sexual disconnection, or intimacy that stopped without either of you naming it
- Parenting conflict that has become a proxy for a different argument
- One of you deciding whether to stay, and needing help thinking rather than reacting
What happens in the room
The first session is eighty minutes with both of you present. Christie will not spend it taking sides or letting one of you present the case. She works out what the actual pattern is, which is almost never the thing you came in arguing about.
You leave with a shared description of the problem — often the first thing you have agreed on in months — and something specific to do before the next session.
A marriage rarely fails because of one betrayal. It fails because of the hundred small unrepaired moments around it.
If your spouse will not come
Come alone. A marriage changes when one person changes how they show up in it, and a great deal of useful work is possible with one partner in the room. If your spouse later decides to join, that is welcome. It is not a condition.
Faith in the room
Christie is both a psychologist and a minister and does not separate the two. For many couples in Port Harcourt that is exactly why they come — they want someone who understands the covenant and the clinical picture. If you would rather she left faith out of it entirely, say so when you book. She will.
How long this takes
Most couples do between six and twelve sessions. Couples in acute crisis often start with the intensive — three sessions across two weeks, concentrated work, a written agreement, and a review at week six. That format exists because when a marriage is at the edge, spreading the work across three months is usually too slow.
