Home · Online & diaspora
For Nigerians abroad who are tired of explaining the context first.
Online counselling with someone who already understands the family, the church, the expectations, and the distance.
The problem with therapy abroad
You find a competent therapist in London, Houston, or Toronto. They are kind and well trained. And you spend the first four sessions explaining why your mother's opinion about your marriage carries weight, why you send money home, why leaving the church is not a simple option, and why "just set a boundary" is not the answer it sounds like.
By the time they understand the context, you have spent a great deal of money on translation.
You should not have to teach your therapist your own culture before the work can start.
What is different here
Christie is a Nigerian psychologist practising in Port Harcourt, with a doctorate in educational psychology and counselling and fifteen years in the room. She does not need the background explained. She also knows the difference between a cultural expectation that deserves respect and one that is quietly damaging you — which is a distinction that requires being inside the culture to make.
What she works with online
- Marriage and couples work across timezones, including when partners are in different countries
- Family pressure from home — money, expectations, marriage timelines, obligation
- Isolation, and the particular loneliness of doing well somewhere that is not home
- Identity and belonging, including for children raised abroad
- Grief at a distance, when you could not be there
- Faith, doubt, and church community after relocation
